How I read over 100 books this year

Follow me on Good Reads to see what I am reading!

You likely read this title and thought, “Clearly, this person has no life.” I’m here to tell you it isn’t as hard to read this many books as you think. Here are my tips and tricks for reading more books.

Make sure you Love reading

This seems to be a no-brainer, but I am an avid reader. I enjoy getting lost or reading an excellent book on a weekend. If you don’t enjoy reading, this isn’t your goal. I do not continue to read anything I hate or feel like I can’t get into. Life is too short for books you don’t like.

Use Different Modalities

I have a Kindle. I use the library for my Kindle as well as for actual books. My library card has saved me thousands of dollars. I also listen to audiobooks while driving, working, doing laundry, or sitting outside. I would instead do that than watch television. (Don’t get me wrong, I love a few shows!) If I know I will write in the book or use it later, I will purchase my own book. Or if I end up at Changing Hands, a local bookstore, I know I will leave with books.

Join Book Clubs

We have a family book club where we read our daughter’s books with her, which is always fun! It helps her to talk about the books she is reading at school or for pleasure. Plus, I love reading YA books. I loved it as a teacher, and I love it now as a mother. The year’s highlight was reading “The Giver” with her because it was my favorite book to teach.

I also participate in book clubs online and with my friends. Talking about what is in the book always makes it better. Again I only choose books I want to read. There was a long research book I wanted to read this year, so I started my own book club! I’m excited to get to chat about it!

Multiple books going at a time

I usually have multiple books going at one time. It allows me to choose what I want to read at the moment. Even while I am learning through books; I always have one light book to give me a break.

Make it part of your routine.

I make reading a regular part of my routine. I read when I wake up instead of grabbing my phone. My favorite thing to do is take a long walk while listening got an excellent audiobook or take my Kindle outside and read in my hammock.

All in all, it’s a goal attainable if you are an avid reader and want to be; start smaller. Little steps can go a long way!

Happy Reading!
