(…or pretend to)
First and foremost, it doesn’t actually matter. Do it the way that works best for YOU and YOUR students.
Please note that this is a PLAN for this semester… We all know how plans go 😉 I know many people start with Political Ideologies and Beliefs, which I think would be awesome. I also have plans in my Unit Guides or in my Series on Teaching AP Government in a shortened/online semester
In parenthesis is what I spent for 1st semester 2018-2019
Unit 1: Foundations of American Democracy (3 weeks, 2 days)
Unit 2: Interactions Among Branches (5.5 weeks)
Unit 3: American Political Ideologies and Beliefs (3 weeks)
Unit 4: Political Participation (2 weeks)
Unit 5: Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (3 weeks)
1 week for final exams!
As for the last part policy making, I interweave them into other units and the AP Macro teacher teaches a lot of it as well since I only have a semester class!
Teaching Online? Look for my Unit Guides to help you plan your semester/year!
Thank you for all this info! Can you tell me if your classes are daily and how long per class? I teach semester-A/B-90 minutes. Tryin to decide how many days for Unit 1 in relation to what you currently say you spend. 🙂
